R1: Creating this website.
Ease: 7/10
Price: $$
Is it a hobby?: No.*
*This is better defined as a task.
Process:
(Read more under The Process to see continued progress!)
Figure out how to create a website
Google “How to have a website,” which took me here.
I didn’t like those instructions so I Did A Google again for “How to have a website.”
I went with this article instead through Business News Daily
Realize that was for small businesses, but I figured I’d dream big and I didn’t want to do anymore Googles. I’ll follow these instructions and see where it leads.
Get a domain
I already knew I wanted my domain to be ratethehobby.com
Decided to host through SquareSpace. GoDaddy was another option but I think what they did in Dec 2020 was in pretty bad taste. Take that PR department.
When I went through SquareSpace, I started by doing the “Get Started” button at the top. This seemed like the easiest way to go for a newb like me.
I had to look for the Domains button, but I found it and registered my domain. Then went ahead and did a SquareSpace subscription as well.
From there, it was really all about website design. I used a template, and I may or may not change it up later. We’ll see if this tasks turns into a hobby. (The Process will be occasionally updated should this website actually be a continued hobby for myself.)
I made sure to create various pages: The Hobbies (a blog), The Ratings (the rubric), and The Process, and of course, Request a Hobby (a contact page)
The rest is really going to be trial and error! So stay tuned.
